Bulcock St, Caloundra (QLD)

Australia’s first smart city streetscape in Caloundra has won a National award 🥇 for its innovation at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) 2021 National Awards for Urban Design.

We are excited that the O fountain is part of the Caloundra Main Street Urban Revitalisation project!

The jury noted that this project exhibited progressiveness, innovation, and creativity. A playful quality was captured and aligned with the sense of place of this local area. The design was “vibrant, green, and community-focused”.

Congratulations to the team involved in transforming this regional main street into an award winning vibrant community streetscape.

A particular shoutout to Unitywater for championing the O fountain and for being the first WATER company in Australia 🇦🇺 (and the world 🌏) to join The O initiative. The energy and leadership you have poured into stimulating people to drink tap water is second to none.

The Caloundra O fountain features art from Thom Stuart, an artist whose work references a mix of botanical motifs that echo the contemporary Australian landscape.

Gorgeous pink hues that reflect the local coastal banksia surrounding the area have created a dialogue between the fountain and place.

We are thrilled with this O fountain's new home amongst the array of public art that the Sunshine Coast Council proudly commissioned.

Through innovation and activation, you have elevated the sense of place and local community identity for the residents of Caloundra. Well done team. 👏 👏
