Alma Park, East St Kilda (VIC)
The very first O fountain launched on March 25, 2017, and was brought to life by the power of community, supported by the City of Port Phillip and Zip Water.
Installed at the site of the weekly Hank Marvin Market in Alma Park, St Kilda East, the project was a collaboration between the local people (residents of Almaville and visitors of the Hank Marvin Market), the private and public sectors. (Zip Water and the City of Port Phillip).
Via an oversubscribed GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign, the local people raised the $1,500 artist commission. As a reward for their contribution, each co-funder received ‘a vote’ to select one of the 3 shortlisted artists (a total of 6 artists responded to the ‘Expression of Interest’).
Local artist Georgie Faircloth received the most votes and turned our first O fountain into a unique work of art. Georgie has done an amazing job in transforming the blank canvas into a painting that truly represents the Alma Park community. She included the Hank Marvin Market, the many dogs as well as the diverse, multicultural community of St Kilda East.
Small activations can have a wonderfully big impact. This is the start of many more to come.
This very first O fountain came to life according to our preferred 3P Strategy; a collaboration between the public and private sectors and the local people.
